Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship (2020), residencies at Cité Internationale des Arts (2026), La Becque (2019), Akademie Schloss Solitude (2018) & Montalvo (2010). Fellowships from Creative Victoria (2018), the Ian Potter Foundation (2008) and Sidney Myer Foundation (2014). Recommended work at UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers (2004, 2011) and joint recipient of the ZKM Giga-Hertz Produktionspreise (2017).

Numerous ensemble pieces commissioned / performed by Sinfonieorchester Basel, Eklekto, Synergy, Speak, Percussion Group The Hague, Vanessa Tomlinson, Diego Espinosa & Third Coast Percussion/Timothy Munro and Drumming Grupo de Percussão.

SOUNDTRACKS

Soundtracks for films screened at Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, Telluride, Edinburgh, Melbourne film festivals, and Anthology Film Archives, written for directors Pia Borg, Eron Sheean and Ben Hackworth. Most recently scored Reise der Schatten, an animated feature by Yves Netzhammer, premiered in the 2024 Tiger Competition at Rotterdam, further screening at Annecy, Ottowa, Solothurn and Lisbon, receiving an honorable mention for best soundtrack.


VISUAL ART

First concerts outside Australia were the Slave Pianos exhibition ¡¡Emancipate the Dissonance!! at Lombard-Freid Fine Arts (New York, 1999), working with FLUX string quartet, Michael Stevenson, Danius Kesminas, Neil Kelly and Rohan Drape.

Sound for Netzhammer’s solo show Zwei kühle Zwergelefanten fressen Einfühlungsüberschuss mit Pfirsicharoma at Haus Konstruktiv (Zürich, 2022), invited by LABOUR as soloist for The Garden of Earthly Delights at Martin-Gropuis-Bau (Berlin, 2019), commissioned by the National Gallery of Lithuania for The World According to Fluxus (Vilnius, 2015).

Music performances at Kunstinstituut Melly (Rotterdam, 2003), Henie Onstad (Oslo, 2014) and La Musée d'Art Modern et Contemporain de Strasbourg (2006).


RECORDINGS

45+ albums on labels such as Tzadik, Editions Mego, Shelter Press, Another Timbre, Ipecac, Futura Resistenza, Hallow Ground, Superpang, Second Sleep, Penultimate Press and the self-edited Immediata text/music project, including two 5CD box sets of concert music.


EDUCATION & TEACHING

Bachelor of Music at LaTrobe (1999), Masters & PhD at Monash (2002, 2008). Taught at Victorian College of the Arts, WAAPA and Sydney Conservatorium.

Masterclasses given at Kunsthochschule Kassel, Conservatorio Giuseppi Verdi (Turin), Royal Conservatorium of The Hague, CalArts (Los Angeles), Northwestern (Chicago), UCSD (San Diego) and ZHDK (Zürich).

Composer-in-residence at the Australian National Academy of Music in 2010.


BANDS & ENSEMBLES

Early collaborations: a live electronics duo with Robin Fox (1999-2009), and the acoustic improvisation trio Pateras/Baxter/Brown with Sean Baxter and David Brown (2002-20). Mixed, produced and performed on the abstract hip-hop record I’m OK You’re OK by Beta Erko (2004).

Piano-grindcore duo PIVIXKI with drummer Max Kohane toured 2008-12 (reuniting briefly in 2024). Thymolphthalein quintet, commissioned by the SWR2 New Jazz Meeting in Baden-Baden, was active between 2009-13. North of North trio with Scott Tinkler & Erkki Veltheim, worked 2015-18.

Formed and conducted the classical ensembles Twitch (2003-06) and A Dread of Voids (2021-2023). Currently plays in Sulla Lingua, an electro-acoustic rock trio with Stefano Pilia & Riccardo La Foresta (2021-).


CURATION

Co-founded & curated the Articulating Space concert series & festival (Naarm/Melbourne, 2001-2006), and the Melbourne International Biennale Of Exploratory Music (2008). Both extensively recorded & broadcast nationwide by the ABC. Sporadic DIY events & micro-festivals on Djaara Country since 2019.


THEATRE MUSIC

Started composing with incidental music for theatre in Melbourne & Sydney. Worked with directors Bob Pavlich, Meredith Rogers, John Britton, Janice Muller, and writers Anna Poletti, Adam Cass and John Romeril. Shows at La Mama, Carlton Courthouse, The Malthouse and Belvoir St.
