Anthony Pateras is an Australian composer, pianist and electronic musician based in Djaara/Castlemaine. Since 1999, he’s produced a voluminous and broad-ranging body of work, performing hundreds of concerts, writing pieces for ensembles & soloists, and releasing albums on multiple international labels.

Pateras’ music has variously explored polytemporality, psychoacoustic phenomena, electro-acoustic ensemble hybrids, rule-based improvisational practice and spatial sound. He’s presented this work worldwide, either solo, directing his own ensemble or performing in one of his bands.

Other performers of his music have included the LA Philharmonic, BBC, Toronto & Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, Sinfonieorcheter Basel, Brett Dean and International Contemporary Ensemble. Commissions include INA-GRM , Südwestrundfunk, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Drumming Grupo de Percussão, Festival Archipel, Astra Chamber Music Society and Apartment House.

Anthony’s collaborators have included Sunn O))), Anthony Burr, Sylvère Lotringer, Natasha Anderson, Slave Pianos, Bruce Russell (Dead C), Jérôme Noetinger, Asi Föcker, The Necks, Erkki Veltheim, Christos Tsiolkas, Sabina Maselli, Yves Netzhammer and Mike Patton (as tētēma).

Pateras finished his Bachelor of Music at LaTrobe, then completing a Masters & PhD in composition at Monash. He’s since been awarded the Michael Kieran Harvey scholarship, the ZKM Giga-Hertz Produktionspreise, a Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship, as well as residencies at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Cité des Arts and La Becque.
